Water is a precious commodity worldwide
Efficiency and hygiene play an increasingly important role in greenhouse horticulture. Cultivation gutters with sealed water channels ensure controlled drainage and prevent contamination by root growth or leaf debris. The channels distribute irrigation evenly, ensuring stable and healthy crop growth.
Drainage and end tanks
Drainage through water channels and collection in end tanks prevents waste of water, fertilizer and nutrients. These flows can be cleverly reduced in the cultivation process, saving the grower nutrients and reducing the ecological footprint. At the World Horti Centre, you can find a test setup at the Waterwise theme square.
Hygiene and water go hand in hand
However, proper maintenance of the gutter system is essential. Build-up or deposits can adhere to the gutters and impede drainage. Durable coatings such as PVC laminate or the use of the Second Skin or stay gutters protected from chemicals and wear.
Innovation: Nutrient Film Technique (NFT).
Whereas with traditional Gutters we want the roots not to grow in, with NFT the roots of tomatoes, cucumber and eggplant are immersed in a thin layer of water containing water, oxygen and nutrients for even growth. We use this technique in the ebb and flow bottoms of our growing tables, among other things.
